Week of 4/8

Happy fourth quarter! We hope everyone had a wonderful Spring Break. As the new (and final) quarter begins, we begin many new projects in room 310. In math we have begun our final unit - Measurement & Data. We are learning about area, perimeter, best tools/units to use in a given situation, and converting between different units of measure. In addition, we continue to work on building our fact fluency, problem solving, and communication skills. In literacy, we are working on writing a good persuasive/argumentative writing piece. We are working on identifying important details, versus interesting details, when reading. We are also reviewing identifying cause and effect in a text. In inquiry, we are researching ways in which humans impact the water cycle.

4/9/13 Ms. Lee-Palmer from MMSD, taught us about water and how water is cleaned.

Week of 3/4

This week we celebrated "Cat in the Hat Week." It was a celebration of Dr. Seuss and his books. We read some special Dr. Seuss books. We had special dress days. Our favorite was definitely pajama day on Wednesday. On Wednesday afternoon, we had a special guest reader who read "Good Night iPad." We started a new unit on geometry in math. We worked with groups to research polygons. In reading we worked on inferring meaning from a story. We continued to work on our insect inquiry and studying our meal worms. Some of them have turned into pupae. We finished publishing our creative narratives. We learned about and used some cool music apps on Friday. Earlier in the week we played a music board game. In art we made a Dr. Seuss related piece of art. We used scooters to race in physical education. In SEL we began practicing relaxing. We listened to calming music and Mrs. Prekop gave us some various things to try with our bodies and our minds. On Friday afternoon we went to a kickoff assembly for the spring fundraiser. We can win some cool class prizes.

Special Notes:
March 18th will be our rescheduled Open House.

Week in Review

This was another busy week in room 310. First of all, we can't believe that we had a snow day! Almost all of us were able to go outside and many of us built snowmen. Besides the snow day, we were busy in the classroom. We wrapped up math our unit on Algebraic Thinking and Operations. In writing, we worked on revising and editing the stories we wrote after reading "Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs." We spent some time working on our insect inquiry projects with our groups. We also continued to work on inferring the meaning of words as we are reading. We used TenMarks to practice our math skills and we used Achieve3000 to become better readers. As a result of our hard work over the month of February, 13 of us were able to achieve a higher lexile score (reading level) on Achieve3000!

Debbie Sullivan, the "Olympic Champ" by Hannah & Morgan

Debbie was an Olympic speed walker. She came to our school today. It was so cool! She taught us how to speed walk if we were in the Olympics. She came here to talk about living our dreams. It was fun because she gave us dream rocks. She said they are a symbol of chasing our dreams. She said that no matter what happens you should believe in yourself and follow your dreams. She taught us a lot and we were sad to see her go.

Happy Friday!

Today's post was written by Katie & Ava.

For math, we are mainly working on multiplication.

During reading, we are coming up with "thick" and "thin" questions for books.

In writing we are working on another personal narrative.

When we were in art, we worked on winter self-portraits.

We worked on dribbling in basketball during Phy Ed.

In music we worked with a music staff and "do, re, mi".

When we were in SEL we talked about safety, including fire, gun, and walking safety.

Joke:
What do you call a lazy kangaroo?
A pouch potato

Have a great weekend!
